Are you tired of needing to be led; tired of feeling wholly dependent; ready to step up and take charge of your kayaking adventure life? This is a coached course where you make the decisions!

The River Competency Workshop is your ticket to stepping up and taking charge: either of your own destiny within a group, or of the group itself. This workshop aims to arm it's attendees with vital knowledge and experience in everything from trip planning and safe river-running practices to problem solving, quick rescues, and team dynamics on the River.

Let this be the springboard that will propel you towards all of your best adventures to come!

Who's this course for?

Moderate- This workshop is great for those who have had their introduction to whitewater kayaking and built up their skills to be competent in paddling grade 2/3. You don't have to have done Whitewater Safety and Rescue Training, but you'll get more from it if you have.  Its also excellent preparation if you're working toward the Whitewater Leader Award.

Advanced- This workshop is great for those who have been kayaking for a few years on whitewater up to grade 4. Here we begin to look at the challenges of paddling in steep terrain, remote gorges and continuous whitewater. You don't need to have attended British Canoeing Advanced Whitewater Safety and Rescue Training, but this prior knowledge will give you more to bring to the workshop. This is great preparation for your Advanced Whitewater Leader Award.

The progressive nature of the course ticked all the boxes I was looking for with combinations of new lines, challenges and good old fashioned fun all delivered by great coaching. By the end of the week I had a clear understanding of a running theme to take away and work on. Now to get on it and apply with my new boat.     Emma Foxley - 5*

It was an awesome experience and one I would recommend to others who are stuck in their paddling progression and want to progress further. Jamie is a patient and detailed instructor and it is easy to see that he is extremely passionate about the sport.  Morten Chen - 5*
