About the Course
Northern England is home to some fantastic UK Whitewater from the moorland runs of Yorkshire to the becks of the Lake District, this region screams to be explored by kayak.
Since most of the whitewater of Yorkshire and The Lakes fits into the grade 3 (+/-) bracket, it has increasingly become known as an intermediate level kayaker's paradise. There is also heaps of variety, including the wide expanses of water pouring through the Leven from Windermere, the fairytale gorges of the Kent, and even introductory waterfalls on the Tees, this area is packed with action to bring a smile to every face.
We will base this course from Kendal, but each morning will meet in a location central to the intended rivers for that day. After a catch up over a coffee we will head out for a big adventure on the water. The emphasis with this course is learning through adventure, so we'll be aiming for lots of variety and mentored river descents with lots of onus on the participants to become part of the trip planning and river descent team.
What level of paddler is this aimed at?
The reasonably-experienced grade 3 whitewater paddler looking at becoming consistent and stylish at that grade, and looking to develop their ability function as an independent part of a team. Participants on this course should have the core skills necessary to be very comfortable in the grade 2 whitewater environment, and comfortable most of the time around grade 3.
There may be opportunities within the course to paddle grade 4 whitewater, and though this won't be our focus, we won't deny the opportunity if it presents itself to those who are ready for it! Being consistently able to do a whitewater roll is not essential, but you should be working on it and able to at least make attempts to self-rescue if capsized.
